Charcoal drawing of little me - EPQ

Here i did a charcoal drawing of little me. this links to my EPQ project as my theme is "Childhood and Nostalgia".

It is a picture of little me holding some sticks, out on a family walk, I really like this picture of me, so i decided for the lesson i would draw it as my charcoal drawing.

Here down below, is the picture of little me, holding the sticks, i really like this picture, it reminds me of the walks that id go on as a kid and the adventures id love and still look back on to this day.

Here is the picture of little me holding some sticks that i used for this charcoal drawing.

I really liked drawing this picture.

While i drew this picture, i kept in my mind about the tone and form behind it all, and how shading can really bring the picture almost to life.
i think that charcoal takes patience and i believe that that's a good skill to have, but it takes awhile to learn it.
I find started by getting an easel out, and a board and prepping it, and then i began by masking of the edges of my A2 paper, and sticking it to my easel, all with masking tape.
My next step was to cover the entire page with charcoal and then i began shortly after i finished that, mapping out my charcoal drawing.
once i had mapped out the basics of my drawing, i began by creating the pictures with some lines and tone and form, i made sure that i had gotten all of the proportions right before continuing, and i repeated this process to ensure that my work turned out good, yet accurate, detailed and well proportioned, as proportion is something that i struggled with drawing in the past. However i think i have defiantly improved  my skill with proportion loads more than it used to be.

At this stage, it was looking rough, but trust the process!

i continued putting the charcoal on and then taking it back off again, i kept repeating this process and began developing the creation / drawing of child me.
I've never been great at realism, or charcoal, but i believe that this is defiantly an improvement.
I continued adding yet more and more charcoal onto my piece, and then taking it back off again, and repeating an repeating the process, i made further progression and adding more and more shading to this piece.

I continued to add more and more charcoal to my charcoal piece and then i drew with the rubber an put more and more charcoal on , and then took it off once again.
i created hair strands with a sharp bit of rubber, and continued this process, creating light hairs in my drawn hair, i continued this process until it began forming my primary source.
i made sure that i was still getting all of my proportions correct by stopping, standing back and close, referencing my picture and comparing the picture and the drawing.
I then worked on the background, shading dips in grass and levels in the grass and also creating the trees, the part of fence and my dads leg, etc. i used the drawing with the rubber technique and continued these processes until my charcoal drawing was complete.

This is the only picture i have of it when it was done but I've taken it home and hair sprayed it since so i will take another picture of that soon!

I really like how this turned out, its not my best / favorite work, but i think its a great improvement on my skills set on charcoal. i think that I've actually done a good job on this piece and i thinking that it looks like my primary reference / source as well. i think i did good mark making, tone and form, shading, and proportions in this piece and i am happy and proud of achieving this and creating this.
