EPQ UPDATE! Charcoal landscape drawing
Yesterday, I finished yet another charcoal drawing. I first began by masking off the edges of a A2 piece of paper. I then followed that up by getting my easle, and sticking my paper onto the easle. I then began the artwork, I shaded the whole background in, full of grey, then I began with using a piece of paper like a stencil and shading on the edge of that to create my horrizion. I kept in mind the rule of thirds- which states to always split your paper into thirds and then use the third half and usually dont do your horrizion in the middle, and not to put your main object in the centre of the picture, as the eye won't know where to look or focus. Its better for aesthetics in some times.
I then began mapping out my drawing, referring back and forth to my primary source reference I took. My primary source is a picture of a campsite that ive been going to since I was a kid. Some bad memories but also good memories too, this links to my current epq theme of "Childhood and Nostalgia".
Once I had mapped out my drawing, I then proceeded to start to add shades, and tonal value into my piece. I put the charcoal on, then I took it off, and I repeated this process until I felt as if it looked right and like the primary picture that I was using at the time.
I kept adding shades, and making various marks, and putting on and taking off charcoal and making sure that I was referencing and referring to my picture as i did it, as sometimes if you dont look at the source for too long, your mind can start to make it up.
I then finished my charcoal drawing of the campsite from when I was a kid and ever since and then I hairsprayed it and let it dry, now all I need to do is, remove the masking tape from the picture.
My picture at this current time :
